Science is a difficult subject
Do not be discouraged if you are having a difficult time in Science. Some units are much harder than others, depending on your home language. If you have taken Science classes in Asia, very often you will be most successful in the Chemistry and/or Physics sections. If your home language is a Latin based language (Spanish, French, Italian) you may feel more successful in the Biology portions of the course, even though there is a HUGE amount of vocabulary to learn. Of course this also depends on your previous experience with Science.
Vocabulary, vocabulary, vocabulary
Here are a few ways that might help you learn the vocabulary for a particular unit.
A Personal Science Dictionary
This allows you to keep all of the really important words in one place! And having a section where you can write the word in your own language often helps make the work easier to remember. It is helpful to create a drawing too, because pictures help us remember very well.

The first one allows you to have one page per letter (or more) that you keep together in a binder or duotang to come back to later.
The second one has you keep track of the words in a particular unit. This might be easier for you when you are studying for a test. The last document you can create a little booklet that might make it easier to find in your binder. You can keep it in a pocket at the front of your Science binder. |

Do not worry about the name. This is simply a way to learn vocabulary in a way that you will remember. Put the difficult word in the circle, give it a definition, an illustration or visual way to remember and provide an example and a non-example.
The top one is a full page version, and the bottom one allows you to put four on one page. |

Although this is a part of the Grade 10 textbook, there is probably a section like this in your textbook that gives you some strategies. Once you learn how a textbook "works", it becomes far easier to read!
